Household Tips

Multi Purpose Lubricant.

The best spray on lubricant for all mechanical moving parts is FLUID FILM. It is available at Major retailers including Canadian Tire, Home Depot and others.  This spray on, long lasting lubricant is approved for multiple applications including aircraft and food plants, so it is nontoxic.   It has a lanolin base and will not dry out like the WD 40 solvent-based lubricant.

Your appliance has stopped working.

Before you call a costly repair service, try a reboot first! To do this simply unplug the appliance or turn off the power at the breaker for a minute, then plug it in again or reset the breaker. As most newer appliances now have computer chips, this reset will often clear the electronic error. We have had success doing this when our new washer suddenly stopped working. This also worked for our newer dishwasher, when it was not draining. We made sure the drain was clear first, and it turned out to simply require a reboot, to then complete the drain cycle, when we washed the next load of dishes.

Fraud education and prevention

Seniorfraudalert.ca

Senior fraud alert is an education initiative led by the YEG seniors’ alliance, in partnership with Edmonton Police Service, and funded by the Edmonton Community foundation.

This is an excellent resource that explains every kind of fraud and how to prevent it.
